Subject: Final Report Proposal

The Apple iPhone is the single most popular handset on the market today. The iPhone is unmatched by other mobile devices, and the demand for it is continuing to grow. Apple seeks to possibly open the door for other carriers to add the iPhone to their arsenal. I propose to write a report on how the Blackberry and Android will be affected if the iPhone is made available to Verizon.

Need

RIM Blackberry and Android could fall at the waist side if the Apple iPhone were to switch over to other carriers

  • Blackberry is worried that the iPhone could cut into Blackberry's Research In Motion in Verizon.
  • Android is the most similar device to the iPhone. The iPhone switching could hurt Android's sales market and put the focus on the "craved" iPhone.
  • The iPhone would need to write new apps, and could hurt the Android's app market development.
  • The new iAd program would generate 2.5 billion dollars. This would help the development for the new Apple iPhone.
  • Other updates that Apple is landscaping include multitasking, an ability to collect mobile applications in specific folders, a unified inbox for e-mail, and a social-gaming hub.

The Apple iPhone that rumors to switch to other mobile carriers could really hurt Blackberry and Android. Android devices' sales and development could slowly diminish because of the need to write new apps for the iPhone and that hundreds of clients in Verizon would die to get their hands on an iPhone. Although things might be looking bad for Blackberry and Android, analysts say that even with the possible switch that Blackberry and Android still has room to grow. There has not been much said about how Blackberry and Android plan to counter act the possible iPhone switch, but there might be a way that all these devices could give Verizon a very competitive variety.

The clients of proximity who are trying to target Gen - Y need this report to understand the consequences of the Apple iPhone's switch to other carriers. RIM and Android need to develop a better competitive landscape to make sure they keep their competitive edge and come up with a similar iAd program to thwart the rumors that the iPhone's switch could crush its competitors.

Topics

The proposed report, "Apple 'iAd Could Generate Billions in Revenue, Says Analyst," will cover the following topics:

  • Apple's new innovative plan for generating revenue;
  • iPhone 4.0's new features;
  • Apple's plan to counter-attack Google;
  • Apple's need to continue designing leading-edge consumer products for mass markets.

Sources

These sources are vital to this report. I still need to find information on Apple's plan to monopolize the smartphone market.

Smith, Jesse. RIM Blackberry Sales, Android Sales and New iPhone Release - Will Apple Kill RIM and Android? (2010, April 02). CNM News Network. Retrieved April 11, 2010 from http://cnmnewsnetwork.com/15532/rim-blackberry-sales-android-sales-and-new-iphone-release-–-will-apple-kill-rim-and-android/
Smith reports that Apple's idea to provide the iPhone to other mobile carriers is to keep a competitive edge on Google. She states that Blackberry would not hurt as much as Android because the iPhone could help Blackberry research and development for a better smart phone device. The Android would be most affected by the switch, simply because it is the most similar to the iPhone. Consumers would have to choose one device over the other, and with the great desire for the iPhone; Android could be outmatched.

Sherman reports that Apple has stolen some of RIM's market. He agrees that if things continue with Apple iPhone expanding at the pace it is, RIM will be taken over in a matter of time. He also compares the Android to the iPhone. The Android was developed in a mature market, and much later then the iPhone and Blackberry. The Android's expansion is much the expansion of the iPhone. Google has the help of multiple mobile vendors to push the Android's sales and development.

Foresman, Chris. More on next-gen iPhone and Verizon iPhone dreams (2010, April 01). Infinite Loop. Retrieved April 11, 2010 from http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/03/more-on-next-gen-iphone-and-verizon-iphone-dreams.ars
Foresman analyzes that the transfer for the Apple iPhone to a CDMA network could give Verizon customers an option to purchase one of the most highly desirable phones on the market today. He acknowledged that in years past Apple has claimed that the CDMA network is a "dead" technology, but this year Apple might be willing to take the chance to develop a new iPhone for this particular network. He also touched the Android has been rapidly developing over the last couple years despite the fact Apple has sold twice as many iPhones over the last fiscal year. His main point is that Apple's only option to maintain its dominance in the smartphone market is to develop the new iPhone for CDMA network users.

Chubb releases some keynotes about the new and improved Apple iPhone. He reports the iPhone has now incorporated one of the biggest features, multitasking. It also has targeted business users, who ultimately use Blackberries for their everyday needs. The iPhone is rumored to have better battery life and better software to run multiple apps simultaneously. It aims to get popularity from the business market, and could put RIM in some grave danger.

Ng investigates the fight between the new Apple iPhone and the Google Android. He mentioned that Apple discovers the fast paced growth in the smartphone market. Apple is developing a competitive edge by possibly expanding the iPhone to Verizon to take Google head on. He does not mention the details on how the iPhone could put the Android device in trouble by targeting Google's clients. He does however mention that it could be a massive counter-attack on Google by providing to Verizon's clients a widely desirable option (The Verizon iPhone).
